It is no secret that soda is bad for you. But, that doesn’t seem to stop people from drinking it. According to the CDC, about 1/3 Americans consume soda or another sugary drink every day.

I’m not going to lie. Soda does taste good. But, you shouldn’t sacrifice your health for a good tasting beverage.

Don’t get me wrong, drinking soda every now and then shouldn’t be a big deal. But, if you’re drinking a liter a day, you should probably cut down.

If you want to cut down on your soda consumption, here are some things you can try:

Actually Look at What You’re Drinking

If you take the time to read the label and see exactly what you’re putting in your body, it can make a big difference in how much soda you are drinking.

Instead of reaching for that second can of pop, just remember all the sugar that is in it. You may change your mind.

Cut Down Slowly

According to nutritionist Stefanie Sacks, people can actually become addicted to soda. So, you don’t have to quit cold turkey.

That being said, you are going to have to be serious about cutting back if you eventually want to stop. If you normally drink two bottles of soda a day, cut it down to just one for a while. Then try drinking only half a bottle. And keep the process going.

Replace Drinks With Water

Replacing sugary drinks with water worked really well for me when I was trying to stop drinking soda. And this is probably the best way to quit in my opinion.

The best part is, it is really simple! It just takes some willpower at first. Instead of drinking a glass of soda with your meal, pour a glass of water. I did this for a while and water started tasting delicious to me (and it still does).

Now I actually prefer drinking water over soda!
