I still remember when I was getting my braces off. I only had them on for two years but it felt like forever. The funny thing is, I was actually excited to get them on at first, but after dealing with all the pain, dietary restrictions and the ‘metal mouth’ look, I was beyond ready to get them off.

Getting your braces removed is very exciting. If you are about to get them off, chances are you have had them on for at least two years as well. So, don’t be shy when it comes to celebrating. You deserve it!

Here are some things that I think everyone should do after getting their braces off:

Lick Your Teeth

I know this sounds weird, but trust me on this. My teeth have never felt as smooth as they did immediately after getting my braces off.

This smooth feeling only lasts for a day or two, so take advantage of it while it lasts!

Have a Feast

Eating feels different after getting your braces removed and your teeth may be a little sensitive, so be careful when eating extremely hot/cold foods or crunchy foods.

That being said, you should definitely pig out after getting your braces off. You have to test out your new teeth right, so you might as well make it a special meal right? On top of that, you will probably remember this meal for a long time. I still remember the Mcdonald’s I had right after getting my braces off. (I was an unhealthy kid back then).

And once your mouth becomes adjusted and your teeth become less sensitive, you can finally start eating the things you couldn’t for so long! I’m talking about all the crunchy, sticky and chewy foods you had to cut out.

Take Pictures

This is probably the most important thing to do after getting your braces off. You have to show off your beautiful smile to the world! Anyone who says otherwise is just jealous of your teeth.

These would also be great pictures for updating your social media! You can update your Instagram, Facebook and Twitter pictures as well as any other social media platforms you use. Post everywhere. It’s your time to show off!

Looking Ahead

Take care of your teeth! You have invested a lot of time and money into your braces and you don’t want to see that go to waste.

This includes making sure you wear your retainer. A lot of people I know stopped wearing their retainer because they got lazy. And as a result, their teeth shifted back to their original position. Some of them even got braces again. That is such a waste of money!

Learn from their mistakes. This can all be prevented by just wearing your retainer for how long your dentist tells you to. (I still wear my retainer every night).

If you have any stories about braces or retainers that you would like to share, feel free to leave it in the comments!
